Today was our final day of work. We spent the day hiking around Mount Soche’s steep slopes. At the beginning of the day, we had decided as a group to meet at the top of the mountain for a “Hurrah” picture. However, we experienced minor technical difficulties—let's just say the mountain was quite large and Fred had to come save us. (Thank you, Fred!)
Tonight, we celebrate! We have a special dinner planned with festivities (possibly a band and maybe pizza!). Tomorrow, we travel by bus to Liwonde National Park to wrap up our trip with a safari. We will be sleeping in tents. Although perhaps not sleeping much, after hearing about the warthogs around the campground and the long-distance trek to the bathroom.
In all seriousness, working with Mission Rabies for the past 2 weeks has been an amazing experience. I am incredibly grateful. Saying goodbye to our local friends today was tough, but Yamikani and I have added each other on Facebook and have exchanged email addresses. I am grateful for the friendships I’ve made on this trip, and will miss working with this great team.
Thanks for reading, and happy trails!—Jessie Foley
