The Murmur Matters: Addressing Mitral Valve Disease in Primary Care

About This Course
Myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) remains the most prevalent heart disease in dogs, but addressing a newly diagnosed heart murmur can be challenging. How should the finding of a new murmur be conveyed to the client? What are appropriate next diagnostic steps in the asymptomatic dog? How can veterinarians engage with the client about their dog’s heart disease without scaring them? Is an echocardiogram necessary or would radiography suffice? Should medication be started? This session will answer these questions and more, giving the primary care veterinarian tools to help address the dog with a newly diagnosed heart murmur and educate their owner.
