Inappetence can be associated with a variety of conditions in the canine population. Regardless of whether it is caused by chronic disease (eg, cancer, kidney disease) or a period of temporary stress or anxiety, early intervention is critical to reduce the risk for continued weight loss and other secondary complications.

Entyce™ (capromorelin oral solution) is the only FDA-approved appetite stimulant for use in dogs. Entyce is a selective ghrelin receptor agonist that influences signaling in the hypothalamus to stimulate appetite while also stimulating the secretion of growth hormone.1 Entyce should be used with caution in dogs with renal or hepatic insufficiency.1 Its use has not been evaluated in breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs.1
