About This Course

In this webinar, Dr. Dennis Chew will review what comprises a “complete” urinalysis. The advantages and disadvantages of performing a urinalysis manually in house, in house with automated methods, and sending out to a reference laboratory will be detailed. The presentation will also emphasize findings revealed during urine sediment microscopy and review the basic elements in urine that need to be identified, including RBCs, WBCs, squamous and nonsquamous epithelial cells, bacteria, crystals, and the various types of casts, with an emphasis on how specific types of casts form. Lastly, the concepts of superficial versus deep learning artificial intelligence will be explored, and new technology that is emerging to identify elements in urine sediment will be introduced.
