Lena, adopted from Gulf Coast Doberman Rescue, was originally found as a stray on Grand Isle at 12 weeks old. Her adopter, Hannah, was in search of a Doberman pinscher to be her new service dog as her other service dog was retiring. Hannah came across Lena's picture on Gulf Coast's website and immediately wanted to meet her.

Lena slid into the service dog position like a pro. She immediately learned natural seizure alerts from the other service dog—an uncommon feat. At 7 months old Lena was already alerting Hannah to impending seizures 10 minutes prior to an episode, allowing Hannah to put herself in a safe place away from harm. Lena is now 15 months old, and in addition to her seizure alerts, she is being taught seizure response. She also helps Hannah with tasks to mitigate her anxiety and PTSD. Lena is trained by her owner, Hannah, through Working Animal Guide Society of Louisiana. Lena allows Hannah to be independent without fear and goes places she could not go before. Hannah rescued Lena, but Lena is really the one who saves Hannah on a daily basis.
