A 10-year-old, neutered male domestic shorthair cat presented to the veterinarian with a history of inappetence, weight loss, polyuria/polydipsia, and occasional vomiting. The signs had been worsening over the past 3 months.

Physical Examination. The cat was mildly to moderately dehydrated on presentation, had a thin body condition, pale-pink mucous membranes, and bilaterally small kidneys noted on abdominal palpation. The vital signs were within normal limits.

Crusty, Itchy Cat

A 6-year-old, neutered male domestic shorthair cat presented with facial and pedal pruritus and dermatitis.

History. The owner described a 4-month history of a progressive but somewhat waxing and waning course of pruritus and dermatitis. The cat occasionally shook its feet. It had a partial response to antibiotics and had recently begun hiding under the bed. Diminished appetite was also noted.

Ataxia and Depression in a Newfoundland Dog

A 61-kilogram, 3-year-old, male Newfoundland dog was presented for ataxia and depression.

History. The dog was previously healthy; vaccination and heartworm preventatives were up-to-date. The dog had gone to the nearby middle school as classes were letting out and returned home with the owner's son. Two hours later, the dog was noted to be ataxic and disoriented.
